PURPOSECollect, test and analyze water and other related samples to determine the physical,chemical and bacteriologic components Prepare bacteriological media and standard chemical solutions; perform analysis of water quality using laboratory instruments and procedures; clean glassware; maintain the laboratory in a neat and orderly fashion; collect samples for analysis; participate in the quality assurance program; record test results neatly, accurately, and promptlyFUNCTIONS Collect, test and analyze water and other related samples to determine their physical, chemical, and bacteriologic components Collect samples from various locations in a valid manner consistent with good laboratory practice Analyze samples either collected or provided using laboratory equipment to determine the physical, chemical, and bacteriologic components Record all findings for reference and reporting purposes Produce reports as necessary and on a regular basis Utilize good laboratory practice to prevent cross&contamination and inaccurate results Maintain a current knowledge of water chemistry, bacteriology, water quality assurance, MDH and EPA certified procedures, and related fields relevant to this work Maintain a constant awareness of safe work practices Provide information to assist operators in resolving chemical treatment questions Perform related tasks as necessaryo Maintain the assigned spaces in a clean, safe, and orderly conditiono Perform routine maintenance on equipment assigned, including the calibration, maintenance, and service of laboratory and process control instrumentationo Assist in maintaining, calibrating and repairing water treatment on line analyzers and monitorso Interact with the public and other agencieso Respond to client & consultant complaints and questions

QUALIFICATION STANDARDSAny combination of education, experience, knowledge and abilities may satisfy the necessary minimum qualifications. A typical way to obtain the education, experience, knowledge and abilities would be: Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, chemistry, or sanitary engineering. Experience: Minimum three (3) year of water quality laboratory experience. Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of basic techniques of laboratory measurement and analysis; operation of basic laboratory instruments and apparatus. Ability to perform assignments reliably; use good laboratory work and safety practices; understand and follow written and verbal directions; provide technical assistance to the operators for the production of quality drinking water using Reverse Osmosis equipments.o Extensive knowledge of water chemistry.o Extensive knowledge of safe and effective laboratory practice and procedures.o Knowledge of chemistry and bacteriology and related laboratory analysis procedures.o Knowledge of effective sampling and monitoring procedures.o Knowledge of computerized information systems and spreadsheets.o Skill in the safe use of laboratory equipment to determine the physical, chemical, and bacteriologic components of water.o Ability to attend work on a regular basis in accordance with a predetermined schedule.o Ability to perform routine laboratory tests and sampling duties in the field.o Ability to understand and interpret laboratory test results.o Ability to communicate effectively across multiple media.Work Environmental & Physical Demands:The characteristics described below are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this position..
