BASIC FUNCTION Supervises the civil work activities at the assigned location Civil works include installation, construction and maintenance of buildings, steel structures, foundation supports, drainage systems and all concrete works in the plant Follows up on the contracted out civil projects in the plant WORK PERFORMED -Supervises the activities of assigned personnel in the civil Maintenance Services unit Performs supervisory functions at the level established by Management for the position -Reviews work orders with Supervisor to determine priorities based on work schedules and commitments; visits work site to determine extent of work and other requirements, materials special tools or equipment required; allocates jobs to craftsmen and provides necessary technical instructions -Supervises and participates in civil maintenance carried out on buildings, pipe work, roads, sewage and drainage systems in the plant Includes general carpentry, maintenance of air-conditioning ducts, masonry, painting and plumbing works Allocates work based on issued work orders, reviews work completed, checks the work orders and passes to Supervisor for endorsement and passing to Maintenance Planning Section -Checks work in progress at industrial, office and workshop locations Includes such activities as tank painting, internal or external wall painting; shelf, cupboard and frame making, and panelling; wall repair of plumbing systems and fixtures Resolves problems faced by craftsman and ensures completion according to schedule -Inspects all painting, carpentry, masonary and plumbing work performed by both company and contracted craftsmen for conformity to standards and operational requirements Includes physical inspection, discussing completed jobs and problems faced with craftsmen, and reporting contract infringements to supervisor -Assists Engineering Development personnel in the preparation of scope of work and in technical bid evaluation pertaining to contracted out civil projects Follows up on such projects which may involve new roads, foundations and pipe work Includes determining priorities, providing work direction to the contractor and ensuring that all work are carried out in accordance with drawings and contracts Checks contractors reports to ascertain progress and clears contractors invoices for payment -Arranges and checks that tools, equipment, spare parts and other materials are available for field and shop work; initiates requisitions for such materials to replenish stock Checks proper use, storage and maintenance of craft tools, and arranges repair, as necessary, for electrical or other power tools -Monitors general labour activities of trench digging, levelling, and sand clearance Determines labour required for tasks at various locations, and schedules activities accordingly Checks time sheets of labourers and institutes penalties as warranted -Carries out regular inspection of work areas to ensure that safe working conditions are provided, that equipment and tools are used in accordance with operating instructions, and that unused materials are returned to stores for reuse MINIMUM REQUIREMENT -Completion of Technical Secondary (12 Years) plus 2 years Diploma in Civil Engineering -Minimum 6 years experience in the civil crafts -Good knowledge of English
